Jenny Hayes (1939-2003) ‘The Abbey Slip, Penzance’

£260.00

49 x 73cm
Signed. Mixed media, glazed.

Jennifer Hazel (nee Hayes) 1939-2003

Born Jennifer Hayes in Wolverhampton. One of nine children, she showed an aptitude for art but received no encouragement or support from her family. It was only when she went to Cornwall for summer work that she experienced the milieu that would eventually give full rein to her talents.
She married a local chef, Claude Hazel, who sadly died when she was 40. After bringing up her three children, she began painting in a passionate way in the late1980s. With little money she used all sorts of materials, depicting scenes of Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole. A close friendship with artist Rose Hilton, who employed her as a model, reinforced her desire to paint, and to subsequently hold an exhibition of her works.
